Bedford Look To Consolidate Position

Bedford LFC report how they registered their third Premier League win last Sunday, with six second-half goals at basement side Norwich City, despite being without a recognised keeper.

Sunday morning did not start well for Bedford, as they left for Norwich without any of their three goalies. Striker, Becca Vass bravely offered to go in goal and although she was not kept overly busy, she did manage, to her credit, to keep a clean sheet.

Bedford’s Maisie Wyatt hit the post in a goalless first-half, with the Canaries similarly denied by the outside of the frame.

Manager, Peter Thornes felt that with a couple of minor tweaks his team could win the game. His expectations were surpassed as for a good 30 minutes they took charge and were unplayable.

Bedford’s first goal came from Chloe Scott as she hit an unstoppable rocket from 25 yards. This was followed by Eden Washington bravely getting to the ball before the keeper after she was put through. Another 5 minutes saw an outstanding one touch play release Tash Fensome, who was super cool, rounded the keeper for a tap in.

Washington added another before Wyatt hit a picture-perfect lob to make it 5-0, with the sixth and final goal coming from the ever reliable Fensome – the division’s current top scorer.

It has been a positive start to their first season in the FAWPL South East Division 1 for Bedford, as they currently lie in eighth position and only two points behind fifth placed Luton Town. Now they have experienced the first half of the season and had time to bed in, Peter Thornes expects that they will carry on their form of Sunday 21st to consolidate their place in the league, having attained 10 points from their last 6 matches.

Bedford’s next match is at home versus Ipswich Town in the league on Sunday 4th January at Wootton Blue Cross Stadium, 2pm KO.
