Basford United won 5-4 in the East Midlands League, Rotherham United got off the mark and Stamford retrieved a two-goal deficit to draw.

Rotherham United gained their first point of the season in midweek and thereby ended Sheffield FC’s 100% start.

Eden Hinchcliffe put Sheffield ahead inside the third minute, Alesha Gale levelled for 1-1 at the interval.

Substitute Amy Nelson restored the visitors’ advantage when she chipped in from a narrow angle just inside the area, Rotherham got back on terms through Dina Sarayreh’s deflected header following a corner with less than two minutes of the 90 remaining.

In stoppage time Sheffield were awarded a penalty for handball, only for Sadie Smith to hit the ball over the bar.

Basford United edged a nine-goal derby thriller with 5-4 Ilkeston Town, who slipped to a third straight defeat despite goals from Jade Eaglefield, Rhena Eames, Lauren Gill and substitute Jayde Clegg.

Maisie Plumb scored from distance and Laura Porritt was also on target for the hosts in the first half but Ilkeston would lead 3-2 at the break.

Tasha Leach brought Basford level at 3-3 and although the visitors regained the advantage, Porritt got her second and the decider followed on 68 minutes from Chloe Phillips.

Stamford remained goal-difference ahead of Anstey Nomads in mid-table, after fighting back from two down for a 2-2 draw.

Emma Pollard bagged a brace for Anstey but it proved insufficient to take home all three points.

Meanwhile in the London & South East League Division 1 North, Richmond & Kew beat Actonians Reserves 3-0.

Charlotte Close bagged a brace and Hannah Curwen the hosts’ other goal, as they banked their first points of the season at the third attempt.
