Bars, Boys, Beach And Brunch

Cardiff Met’s latest update on the Welsh Premier League winners getting into shape for their Champions League qualifying round in Poland next month.

The first two weeks of the programme have consisted of building towards set aims and objectives, bettering ourselves both physically and tactically alongside regular team bonding sessions.

Training wise, many improvements have been made, most notably that of Erin Murray in the gym, who is finally able to lift more than the bar itself. The team are also beginning to see improvements in strength and speed transfer from the gym onto the pitch. Sundays’ friendly against a male side was evidence of this however, after a solid first performance in eight weeks, the Archers unfortunately conceded two late goals and were defeated 5-4.

After England’s recent achievements in the Women’s World Cup and their players pinning this success on the togetherness of the squad, we decided that a spot of team bonding was necessary. Credit where credit is due, not only did Kerry Harris manage to provide us with some trendy clobber this year; she also planned an enjoyable team activity (it’s only taken her three years). A fitness session at the Merthyr Mawr sand dunes was followed by a spot of body boarding at Ogmore, although we probably spent longer getting in and out of our wetsuits than we did in the sea. The trip as a whole was a massive success and the new additions to the squad have fitted in perfectly, even acquiring their own dodgy nicknames.

It’s four weeks to go and if our determination to meet our goal of qualifying is as strong as our determination to get a table of eighteen at Toby Carvery on a Sunday afternoon… I am more than confident we’ll reach the final, let alone the next round.
