Barclays FAWSL: Four-goal Gunners go five points clear

Barclays FA Women’s Super League leaders Arsenal beat Reading 4-0 to go five points clear of Chelsea but from two games more.

Arsenal struck twice in little over a minute midway through the first half, as Vivienne Miedema made the most of a deflected pass to shoot past Rhiannon Stewart into the far corner, before Katie McCabe followed up a blocked Stina Blackstenius effort to make it 2-0.

The Gunners got their third before the break, Leah Williamson meeting a Steph Catley corner with a firm header into the back of the net.

Beth Mead smacked a shot against the crossbar in the second half, Blackstenius made it 4-0 from a Miedema pass.

Everton moved up to tenth with a 1-0 win at Aston Villa, whom they now trail by just two points with one game still in hand.

The Toffees made the breakthrough ten minutes from time, Aurora Galli netting a ball from Hanna Bennison.
