It was the fourth time this season that Manchester City had beaten when by a four-goal margin but the opener came from the Toffees’ Simone Magill, who turned Caroline Weir’s corner into her own net.

Lucy Bronze cut the ball back for Ellen White to double the lead just after the half-hour mark.

Two more goals followed in the final dozen minutes, with Alex Greenwood netting from a Lauren Hemp cross and Khadija Shaw setting up Laura Coombs.

Chelsea’s fixture against Tottenham Hotspur will be rescheduled after a number of positive tests for Covid-19 were returned within the Spurs camp.
