Anna Anvegård scored twice as Everton beat Leicester City 3-2 on Saturday evening in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The result lifted the Toffees into ninth place above Aston Villa, over whom they still have a game in hand, leaving Leicester eight points off the bottom.

Four goals were shared in the first half, Leicester scoring five minutes in, Everton turning the game around before the visitors levelled close to the interval.

Jemma Purfield had the Foxes in front from the edge of the area, Toni Duggan rounded Sophie Harris to equalise and Anvegård made it 2-1, only for Sam Tierney to hit back in 44 minutes when heading in from Purfield’s free kick.

Everton might still have gone in ahead at the break but Harris made a fine save to thwart Izzy Christiansen.

Seven minutes after the restart, Anvegård restored Everton’s lead from a Hannah Bennison cross.

The Foxes went close to equalising again but Sandy MacIver saved from Natasha Flint and another Purfield set-piece.
