Lyon Progress Despite Loss
Lyon edged Wolfsburg on penalties in last season’s final but were thankful for a 2-0 first leg away win to come out on top again, reaching a joint-record eighth semi-final.
The Stade de Lyon crowd of 14,128 were given a tense last eight minutes, as Pernille Harder won a penalty which Caroline Graham Hansen converted.
But Wolfsburg’s were unable to level the tie and had Anna Blässe sent off for her second bookable offence.
Paris Overturn Bayern Lead
There was a clearer path for another French side over German opposition, as PSG delighted their record crowd of nearly 14,000 fans at Parc des Princes, by overturning a 1-0 deficit with four second leg goals.
Marie-Laure Delie opened the scoring early on and Paris had an aggregate lead after a dozen minutes through Cristiane’s follow up to a Verónica Boquete free-kick.
Shirley Cruz Traña won possession and lobbed the keeper to make it 3-0 by the break, with Cristiane getting hwer second after a smart exchange with Delie.
Barca Benefit From Woodwork
Barcelona increased their first leg lead over Rosengård, 7,350 fans seeing them strike twice in the second half.
But the posts played their part, as the visitors Ella Masar was denied by the woodwork early on and after the interval Jenni Hermoso doubled their aggregate lead with a shot going in off both uprights.
The night’s second goal came with virtually the last kick subs Bárbara Latorre and Mariona Caldentey combined for the latter to score.
