Will there be a bank holiday if England win Women's Euro 2025

Downing Street have revealed whether there will be a UK bank holiday should England win Women’s Euro 2025.

The Lionesses face Italy on Tuesday night, with the winners going on to play either Spain or Germany in the final in Basel on Sunday night.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer previously called for a bank holiday when England won the trophy in 2022.

He repeated that sentiment in 2023 when England reached the World Cup final. He tweeted at the time:  “It’s almost 60 years since England won the World Cup.

“I’m never complacent about anything… but there should be a celebratory bank holiday if the Lionesses bring it home.”

Starmer also hinted at a bank holiday if England won the men’s European Championship last summer. England ultimately lost 2-1 to Spain.

‘No plans’ for bank holiday if England win Euro 2025

A spokesperson for Sir Keir Starmer said that there are no plans presently for a bank holiday should England win Women’s Euro 2025.

When asked if there could be a bank holiday, they said as per the Daily Mail: “I’m not aware of any plans for that.

“But when it comes to backing the Lionesses, we are obviously sending best wishes ahead of the semi-final.

“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, the semi-final is tonight and the PM sends his best wishes to Sarina, Leah [Williamson] and the whole team.”

Starmer himself has not addressed the situation but has kept an eye on the Lionesses’ progress, congratulating them after their dramatic penalty shootout win over Sweden in the quarter-finals.

How to watch England vs Italy?

England will meet Italy in the semi-finals at Euro 2025 on Tuesday evening.

The game which takes place in Geneva will kick off at 8pm and will be broadcast on ITV One and streaming platform ITV X.

To watch the game live viewers in the UK must have a valid TV licence. If watching the game on ITV X, you will also need an account with the streaming platform.

Ian Wright will reportedly be part of the team covering the game for the broadcaster.

The Arsenal legend was included in ITV’s planned team for Euro 2025, but has been called up for the semi-final.

When is the Euro 2025 final?

The Euro 2025 final takes place in Basel on Sunday, July 27th.

Should the Lionesses prevail against Italy on Tuesday evening, they will have five days to prepare for one of either Spain or Germany.

England beat Germany in the final of Euro 2022, but lost to Spain in the 2023 World Cup final.

The Lionesses are also second favourites behind Spain to win this summer’s tournament in Switzerland.

The UK’s best football betting sites have the Lionesses priced at 11/4 to lift the trophy in Basel on Sunday.
