Ayr were looking to bounce back from a 92nd-minute Scottish League Cup exit the week before against East Fife Violets, with history being made as they grabbed their first Scottish League 2 victory thanks to a double from Rachel Scott and another from Tamara Sommers in the 3-0 win over Bishopton.
The deadlock was eventually broken at Drumchapel when a clever throw-in from Tamara Sommers (pictured) brought Scott into play and she then neatly curved the ball around the on-coming Bishopton goalkeeper, giving the Honest Lassies the lead.
Ayr then started to lose their composure slightly after going in front with Bishopton beginning to cause a few anxious moments but they held strong to see the half out with the one-goal advantage.
Ayr’s second goal of the game arrived after a perfectly weighted pass from Miren Babaske-Kerr fell directly into the path of Scott, who rounded the keeper to score her second of the game.
With 5 minutes left on the clock, the ball fell to Sommers 25 yards out and she lobbed the stranded keeper to end the game at 3-0.
Ayr Head Coach, David Danaher, stated: “The girls were excellent today, it was a real team effort, with everyone playing for each other. A massive result for the girls and you can see their confidence growing by the minute. Saying that, we won’t get too carried away, as we still have a lot of work to do and we will work hard to improve.”
