Aston Villa rescued a point against Reading in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, Sheffield United won in the Championship.

Villa end run of ten home defeats

Aston Villa and Reading exchanged second-half goals as the Royals moved level on points with sixth-placed West Ham, the Villains doing likewise with Everton in ninth.

Ramona Petzelberger volleyed over from six yards out and Jill Scott headed wide for Aston Villa at the end of a goalless first half, in which Sanne Troelsgaard blazed over when in a good position for Reading.

The Royals made the breakthrough midway through the second half, Justine Vanhaevermaet converting from the spot after Maz Pacheco brought down Amalie Eikeland.

Villa rescued a rare home point when seven minutes after going behind, Petzelberger headed in a Laura Blindkilde cross.

Blades climb three places

Sheffield United went up three places to fourth with a single-goal victory over second-placed Bristol City.

Ellie Wilson headed the Blades in front from a 31st-minute Maddy Cusack free kick.

Fran Kitching denied Bristol City a first-half leveller on more than one occasion, including a save from Abi Harrison with Georgia Robert clearing the follow up off the line.

Three minutes into the second half, Robert’s free-kick from inside the centre circle wasd pushed over by Fran Bentley.
