Winless Aston Villa were bottom of the table before the late kick off at unbeaten Manchester United but moved back out of the relegation place immediately with a goalless draw.
Phallon Tullis-Joyce almost handed Villa’s Gabi Nunes an early goal but later made a double-save, including a rocket from Jordan Nobbs.
United had a better second half but even with 13 minutes of added time could not find a breakthrough.
Chelsea moved to back within a point of leaders Manchester City with a game in hand, when winning 3-0 away to Liverpool.
Sonia Bompastor’s side opened the scoring in the 37th minute, Mayra Ramirez finishing at the Blues’ third attempt after Johanna Rytting Kaneryd hit the crossbar and Guro Reiten’s follow up came off the post.
The lead was doubled when Rachel Laws clearance went straight to Reiten, to returned the ball into the unguarded net from outside the box.
Aggie Beever-Jones added a late third when Wieke Kaptein’s effort from a Ramirez cut-back fell nicely for her.
Everton picked up a third point of the season with an equaliser in a 1-1 draw away to Crystal Palace. The hosts took only seconds to score, Indiah-Paige Riley with the finish from a ball by My Cato.
Honoka Hayashi, who hit the bar with a deflected effort in the first half, headed Everton level from Veatriki Sarri’s cross with 18 minutes left on the clock.
West Ham won for the first time this season with a single-goal success over Leicester City, whom they now only trail on goal-difference.
Viviane Asseyi got the Hammers ahead in the seventh minute of first-half added time, picked out by Manuela Paví she rounded keeper Janina Leitzig to score.
