Aston Villa Women have appointed Marcus Bignot as Interim Manager, with Gemma Davies and her coaching team remaining in position.

Bignot spent seven years in charge of Birmingham City Women and is currently a coach in the FA’s England U-19 men’s structure, as well as Joint Manager of National League North club Guiseley.

He will retain these roles alongside his new position, which has been made until the end of the current Barclays FA Women’s Super League season.

Marcus Bignot told avfc.co.uk: “I am delighted to be able to help at such a progressive club in women’s football. It is also a great opportunity to mentor a talented young coaching group led by Gemma.”

Aston Villa Women’s Sporting Director Eniola Aluko added: “Marcus is a very welcome addition to our club and has an enormous amount of experience in the game which we want to tap into.”

Villa host Chelsea on Wednesday (27 January), kick-off 7.30pm and live on the FA Player.
