Arsenal’s Lia Walti is set for a move to Juventus.
The Switzerland midfielder – who has been with the Gunners for seven years – has one year left on her contract.
And the BBC are reporting that the Italian club are in talks and keen to wrap up the deal before their transfer deadline of Thursday, September 10th.
Lia Walti’s Arsenal career so far
The 32-year-old began her senior career with FC Koniz in her native Switzerland, moving to BSC YB Frauen in 2009. She spent four years there before moving on to Turbine Potsdam, playing more than 100 games there and serving as captain.
Joe Montemurro signed her for Arsenal in the summer of 2018, and the team went on to win the Women’s Super League the following season. However, Walti’s campaign ended badly as she suffered a knee ligament injury in January 2019 while on international duty, undergoing surgery for it three months later.
“I had my time where I had my downs,” she told the Guardian afterwards. “It was probably harder for me to see the last games of the season, I wanted to be part of it, to lift the trophy and to be also a bit longer part of it than just the first half of the season.”
Since then, she has also helped Arsenal to the Women’s League Cup in 2022-23 and 2023-24, and famously the UEFA Women’s Champions League in 2024-25, although she was an unused substitute in the final against Barcelona. In fact, almost half of her Arsenal appearances last season came off the bench – 16 out of 36.
More recently, she has had two operations to remove an abscess.
Lia Walti on Arsenal’s recent domestic form
She has been honest about Arsenal’s relative lack of trophies, particularly when compared to Chelsea’s domestic dominance, saying in 2024 that the team needed more consistency.
“With the squad we have, I believe we should achieve more than just one trophy. We have the expectations on ourselves to be up there and bring back the WSL League trophy to the club.”
She signed a new Arsenal contract in 2023.
Internationally, she made her senior debut for Switzerland in 2011, and featured at the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada. She was named captain in 2019, and led the team at their home tournament, the 2025 Women’s Euros, as they made it out of the group stage before losing to eventual runners-up Spain in the quarter-finals.
Arsenal begin their Women’s Super League campaign this season against London City Lionesses at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, September 6th, kicking off at 1.30pm.
