Arsenal went level on points with Barclays Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea after a 2-1 Saturday success over Everton.

Beth Mead had struck the cross bar for the Gunners, before Arsenal took a ninth-minute lead with a Victoria Pelova cut-back netted by Caitlin Foord.

Everton equalised in the 24th minute against the run of play, Karoline Olesen sending Katja Snoejis away to find the net from outside the box.

Mead restored the lead in first-half added time, heading home a Lia Walti cross at the back post.

In second-half stoppage time, Everton nearly made Arsenal pay for missed opportunities but a Rikke Madsen strike was headed over her own bar by Stina Blackstenius.

The result, in front of 3,713 at Meadow Park, put the Gunners just goal-difference short of Chelsea but from a game more than the Blues – who host Manchester United tomorrow.
