Arsenal made a stunning start to the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage when winning 5-1 away to Lyon.

Stina Blackstenius set up Caitlin Foord for the opener, then had a shot saved by Christiane Endler with Frida Maanum netting the rebound.

Melvine Malard pulled a goal back, only for Beth Mead to rifle home a free-kick for a 3-1 lead at half-time.

The Gunners added a quickfire brace midway through the second half, Foord finding the net from distance after an error by Wendie Renard, Mead then also doubling her tally for the night.

Juventus won 2-0 in Zurich with two goals in the last 20 minutes, Valentina Cernoia and Barbara Bonansea the scorers

Group D began with Bayern Munich coming from behind for a 2-1 home win over Rosengård. Loreta Kulashi’s goal was cancelled out by Carolin Simon on 35 minutes, with Linda Dallman netting the decider before the hour mark.
