Spain were 1-0 winners over Canada to go top of the Arnold Clark Cup tournament table ahead of England’s game with Germany.

Canada made a lively start against Spain, with Jordyn Huitema seeing her shot deflected for a corner after only 40 seconds.

However, it was Spain who scored in the 20th minute, Ouahabi El Ouahabi crossing for Alexia Putellas to slot home unmarked.

Janine Beckie’s free kick was met by the head of Huitema but Lola Garrardo tipped it onto the bar and the rebound evaded Kadeisha Buchanan.

After the break Marta Cardona was unable to get a shot away in front of goal, Putellas headed against the bar from close range.

Nichelle Prince put a free header over the top from a Canada corner in the last few minutes.

Spain finish their games top of the table but will be caught by England if the Lionesses defeat Germany in the evening match.
