Archers Win Cardiff Derby To Go Second

Archers Shoot Down Bluebirds

Cardiff Met (pictured) moved within 6 points of leaders Swansea City after coming from behind to win 4-1 at Cardiff City FC.

The Bluebirds led at the break through Kanisah Underdown but Erin Murray scored twice in reply during the first 20 minutes or so of the second half.

In the last dozen minutes, Jassie Vasconcelos made it 3-1 and new signing Lauren Townsend got the fourth in style from the best part of 40 yards.

Cyncoed stun Abergavenny

Abergavenny had begun the day in second place and were on course to stay there, leading 1-0 at half time after a Katie Jeremiah strike.

But Cyncoed hit back through Grace Horrell to not only level but then go in front when Clare Daley flicked the ball of for the scorer to double her tally.

Alice Griffiths later made it 3-1 and Daley rounded off the scoring for the fifth-placed Cardiff-based side.

Llandudno Leapfrog Aber

Llandudno went sixth in the table after hitting hosts Aberystwyth for six.  

There were braces for Rosie Hughes, Sofie Owen and Stacey Tradewell, while Tania Wylde was on target for Town.

Basement Battle Drawn

The bottom of the table clash saw Rhyl finish all square with Briton Ferry, the hosts having been 1-0 up at the interval thanks to Laura Williams.

The visitors claimed only their third point in the WPWL, Lucy Powell getting an equaliser from the spot in the second half.

Cup Final next Sunday!

Next Sunday sees the WPWL Cup Final, when Abergavenny take on Cardiff Met at Leckwith Stadium, kick-off 2pm.

January Awards

Meanwhile, the January Player and Manager of the Month awards were announced in the week, with Abergavenny’s Captain Ceri Hudson and Cardiff Met’s boss Kerry Harris picking up the accolades.
