Manchester City head coach Andree Jeglertz watched his side lose only their second Women’s Super League match of the season as they fell 1-0 to Arsenal.

But his team are still eight points clear at the top of the table – and afterwards, Jeglertz dismissed the idea that he was at all concerned.

“I’m not worried at all, there’s no doubt that we’ll bounce back,” he said after the match, according to the club’s official website.

“The players gave everything at the end, but we know the rest of the league will be tough, so we need to handle that in a good way, then we’ll be fine.”

Andree Jeglertz: Manchester City had a chance

Olivia Smith scored the only goal of the game in the first half, with City having plenty of chances in the second – including a penalty shout when Lauren Hemp was brought down by Mariona Caldentey.

However, referee Abigail Byrne was not at all interested in the claim.

Vivianne Miedema – returning to her former club – got the ball into the back of the net but the whistle had already gone for a foul on Katie McCabe during the build-up.

And Jeglertz felt that City’s persistence was something they could be proud of, despite the loss.

“I think we had some struggle of sorting out their attack because I think they played through us a little bit too easy,” he went on.

“It was better in the second half, but they were on a good level today and we weren’t really there for some reason. We were a little bit late in some situations and then you’ll be challenged and exposed by a team like Arsenal.

“I think in the last ten or 15 minutes, even though we struggled in the game, we still gave ourselves a chance.

“That’s a positive, when you have games where you’re not at your highest level but you still create some scoring chances. We saw that in the second half.”
