Alexia Putellas is unsure about her future at Barcelona as speculation regarding her contract situation continues to mount.
The Spain star has been a key part of the Barcelona squad ever since she joined the club from Levante in 2012.
However, the 31-year-old is contracted until 2026 with an optional year and has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain.
That optional year has not yet been taken up, and ahead of Spain’s two-legged Nations League final with Germany, Putellas spoke to the media about her contract situation.
Will Alexia Putellas stay at Barcelona?
Speaking to Marca ahead of the first leg of Spain’s Nations League clash with Germany, Alexia Putellas refused to rule out a move away from Barcelona.
When asked about her contract situation, she said: “I have been prepared for these things for a long time. I’m not worried, really. The only thing that worries me is what I, my family and my close circle feel and think.”
PSG offered to pay Putellas’ release clause in the summer, though the Spanish star decided to stay with the Catalan giants. The French club though are still believed to be interested in Putellas.
Asked if she sees a future outside Barcelona, she said: “I don’t know. There are so many things in this life that may or may not be.
“I’ve always said that I’ll play for Barca as long as the club is interested in it and I feel that I can continue to push myself and squeeze every day to be better.
“That’s my way of understanding what it’s like to play for Barca. That entails physical and mental wear and tear that makes you end the season destroyed, but at the same time, it’s like an addiction.”
Barcelona players on expiring contracts
Putellas is just one of several Barcelona players who are on expiring deals.
That list includes Claudia Pina, who was the top scorer in last season’s Women’s Champions League, and veteran forward Caroline Graham Hansen.
Former Manchester United full-back Ona Batlle, defender Mapi Leon, Salma Paralluelo and Marta Torrejon, are also on the list.
Putellas’ comments come after Aitana Bonmati called for changes to Spain’s Liga F, while praising the English Women’s Super League.
The three-time Ballon d’Or winner said that Liga F is a “little left in the hands of God” and doesn’t know “who cares” about the league.
When is the Nations League final?
The first-leg of the Nations League final is on Friday night at 19:30pm, with Germany hosting Spain.
Spain will hope to take a good scoreline back to their home soil when the sides meet in the second-leg on Tuesday.
