Chelsea thrashed Liverpool 9-1 in the quarter-finals of the Subway Women’s League Cup.
But a successful afternoon had a slight cloud as forward Aggie Beever-Jones was forced off the pitch in the first half.
She was replaced by Lauren James after just 42 minutes – and Sonia Bompastor updated the media on Beever-Jones’s issue after the match.
“It’s her ankle, so we’ll assess her,” said the Chelsea head coach. “It’s too soon for me to have more news. Hopefully, it won’t be too bad, but it doesn’t look great at the moment.”
Fans on social media suggested they had seen her wearing a protective boot after the match, which they hoped was precautionary.
Aggie Beever-Jones: injuries this season
Aggie Beever-Jones started the 2025-26 season in exceptional form, carrying on where she left off after finishing 2024-25 as Chelsea’s top scorer. She scored the first goal of the campaign in the opening fixture, and went on to score in each of the next three games as well.
But since then she has had a stop-start few months when it comes to injury. She limped off the pitch on England duty against Australia in October, with an injury to her right leg.
And she missed out on Chelsea’s match against Arsenal ten days later, with Bompastor saying that it was “a collection of blood in her leg” that was stopping her from bending her knee properly.
It is perhaps no wonder that the head coach went on to say how important the winter break would be for her squad – giving some of them the chance to get a physical rest and recover ready for the second part of the season.
“We have got some good momentum, but the players have been playing so many games and travelling all over Europe,” said Bompastor. “I think the break is coming at a good time. It’s really important for everyone – players and staff – to reset mentally and physically, to really enjoy the Christmas break with their loved ones.
“Every human needs that, so it will be good for everyone to have a break, and we will come back strong for the second part of the season.”
