Dennis Lowndes, AFC Wimbledon Ladies & Girls Chairman, says the regeneration of the club starts today with the appointment of a new manager.
Since my recent announcement regarding the departure of our ladies manager, I have been searching for a new manager that can lead the charge for the club’s desire to regenerate the ladies team. Our mission has always been, and still is, to create a team at the top level of the game in the next five years.
I am delighted to announce that our regeneration starts today with the managerial appointment of Chris Lyons (pictured). Chris will head up a very professional set up at the club, and holding the UEFA B Licence, brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience of the ladies game.
Chris said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge and responsibility of rebuilding the club. When Dennis and I spoke about the regeneration plans, I was very attracted to just how much the club is prepared to put in to move it forward”
“It was ten years ago when AFC were playing at the top levels of the ladies game, and the last few years has seen a sad decline for a proud club. It has a successful youth set up, with dedicated coaches, and very successful U-18 and Development teams. All this helps us to produce players that will eventually play for the senior side.”
“I believe my knowledge and experience will ensure the club is successful, and although there’s a lot of hard work to be done, I’m confident we can achieve it in the time scales we have agreed”.
“AFC Wimbledon Ladies will be able to offer first team players some of the best support available, including financial assistance, as we look to get back to the days of playing successful football again”.
“The club is recruiting new players to strengthen all teams in the senior and youth set up, including both the first and development squads, with open day/trials held in May and June, and pre-season commencing for the senior squads in July. Although the first team are looking to hear from players with experience, we will also welcome developing players who believe they have the ability and potential to compete at a higher level”
