BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year for 2019, Ada Hegerberg has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of her right knee during training with Lyon.
Hegerberg, who has over a goal a game in domestic and UEFA club competitions, will miss the rest of the season including Lyon’s defence of the Champions League trophy which continues against Bayern Munich in March, with Arsenal or PSG their possible semi-final opponents.
She wrote on Twitter: ‘So here it is. I ruptured my ACL this weekend. This is a setback for me, but I’m going to work through this with all my heart and my energy. The best is yet to come. YOU’LL SEE ME SOON!’
