Chelsea up to second in the Barclays Women’s Super League

Chelsea beat Brighton 3-1 to go second in the Barclays Women’s Super League, Arsenal defeated Liverpool 2-0.

Guro Reiten tucked away a penalty for Chelsea, after Sam Kerr was brought down in the box by Zoe Morse with little over ten minutes played.

Jess Carter doubled the advantage with a shot in the turn following a corner that was not cleared.

Jelena Čanković hit the bar for the Blues’, Brighton’s Elisabeth Terland similarly denied after halftime.

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd made it 3-0, before a late consolation for the visitors from Danielle Carter.

The result lifted Chelsea into second place, a point behind Manchester United with a game in hand.

Stina Blackstenius gave the Gunners the lead after half an hour, having earlier been denied by the post.

A few minutes later she saw her strike parried by Rachel Laws, with Caitlin Foord putting away the rebound.

Arsenal are now within three points if third-placed Manchester City, who have played a game more.
