Spain left their comeback too late as they lost 3-2 to Australia at the FFA Women’s Cup of Nations, where Czech Republic beat Jamaica by the same score.
Australia were 3-0 up against Spain by half time, Cortnee Vine, Clare Polkinghorne and Caitlin Foord all on target. The Spaniards got one back through Olga Carmona with 17 minutes left, Alba Redondo further reducing the deficit but deep into added time.
Jamaica twice equalised against Czech Republic before going down to a 90th-minute goal in Australia. Jody Brown cancelled out the opener from Andrea Staskova, Kameron Simmonds replied to Klara Cahynova’s effort but Alena Peckova netted the decider.
France defeated Uruguay 5-1 at the Tournoi de France with Aston Villa’s Kenza Dali among the goals, restoring the lead after Kessya Bussy’s opener was wiped out when Hawa Cissoko’s back pass was intercepted by Luciana Gomez. Wendie Renard, Sandie Toletti and Naomie Feller later added one apiece.
Denmark beat Norway 2-0 at the same tournament, Josefine Hasbo’s early goal added to late on by Sofie Svava.
Hosts Mexico were pegged back pass by Costa Rica in the Women’s Revelations Cup, Raquel Rodriguez levelling after Kiana Palacios had scored first.
Also in Mexico, Linda Caicedo’s ninth-minute goal gave Colombia the win over Nigeria.
Elsewhere, Carina Caicedo and Madelin Riera both bagged a brace in Ecuador’s 5-0 victory over Bolivia.
