Australia Women score four, New Zealand concede five

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 joint hosts had very mixed tournament results, Australia 4-0 winners, New Zealand beaten 5-0.

Spain opened the FFA Cup of Nations in Australia with a 3-0 defeat of Jamaica. Maite Oroz was first to score, Esther Gonzalez doubled the lead on half time, Fiamma getting the third.

Australia went one better but had been held to a goalless first half by Czech Republic. Manchester City’s Hayley Raso bagged a brace, before Chelsea’s Sam Kerr and Clare Polkinghorne added one apiece.

New Zealand are also hosting a tournament but crashed to 5-0 defeat against Portugal. Jessica Silva, Dolores Silva (penalty) and Tatiana Pinto got one apiece, Ana Capeta a swift double.

Also in Auckland, Argentina were 4-0 winners over Chile. Eliana Stabile, a Mariana Larroquette penalty, Yamila Rodriguez and Florencia Bonsegundo found the net.

Sweden struck three times in the first 15 minutes during a 4-1 defeat of China. Chelsea’s Johanna Rytting Kaneryd scored in a matter of seconds, Madelen Janogy added a double and after Xiao Yuyi replied, Nathalie Björn completed the scoring.

USA defeated Canada 2-0 at the SheBelieves Cup, Mallory Swanson with a first-half brace, Brazil beat Japan 1-0 as Debinha made the difference with a 72nd-minute breakthrough.

At the Cyprus Women’s Cup, Spurs’ Eveliina Summanen got Finland’s first goal in a 4-1 victory over Croatia, while
Romania came from behind to beat Hungary 2-1.
