Emma Fernon of Glasgow City and Scotland is the ambassador for a great competition called Host Your Kit, in which you can win a fabulous new adidas team strip if you play in the U-11 to U-16 age groups.
More about Host Your Kit in a moment but I thought you might like to know a little bit more about me first.
Well, I’ve had a great career so far. With Glasgow City I’m proud to have been at the forefront of the development of the women’s game in Scotland. In fact the club has just celebrated its 15th anniversary. Having started out with a single senior team back in July 1998, we now have a full youth team set up from Under 9 right through to senior development and our first team, as well as a community coaching programme.
I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy great success with Glasgow City. As the most successful women’s club in Scotland, we’ve represented our country as national Champions at the highest level in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. We’ve played 27 European matches with a record of 12 wins, 4 draws and 11 defeats.
Sadly I’m injured at the moment – I’ll tell you about my road to recovery in a future blog – but I was still just as excited when the draw was made for the 2013/14 UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying round, for which we were the highest ranking team. We have a tough trip to FC Twente to start our campaign which I hope to be involved in when I’m fully recovered.
With the Scotland team I’ve been proud to be part of a side that’s gained its highest international ranking. True, we suffered the cruel blow of losing to Spain in extra time and so won’t be part of Euro 2013 in Sweden this month but it’s great that the tournament is being televised and I hope we see some great matches.
So while I have to watch from the sidelines, I’ll be busy with the other competition I mentioned, Host Your Kit www.hostyourkit.com . I became an ambassador for Host Your Kit last year and am proud to be promoting it again this year. It’s a brilliant kit giveaway run by a cloud computing company called iomart Group plc which is based in Glasgow. iomart is passionate about hosting businesses’ IT in its data centres but it’s also passionate about hosting your kit hence the name Host Your Kit.
There are 30 adidas football kits (the whole package – tops, shorts and socks for 14 outfield players and one goalkeeper) to be won by youth teams in England, Scotland and Wales. It’s simple – all you have to do to win is tell the judges why you think your team deserves a new kit. You can either send an email of 300 words or, even better make a short video like this one made by Jeanfield Swift U-11s from Perthshire last year. They won themselves a new team strip as a result.
Host Your Kit is a fantastic opportunity to get a top quality kit that might just give you the edge when you step out on the pitch next season. So make sure you enter and best of luck. I’m one of the judges so make those entries the best you can!
