The PFA WSL Team of the Year was announced last night at the 2014 awards ceremony in London’s Grosvenor Hotel.
Voted for by it’s women’s football playing members, Liverpool supplied almost half the PFA’s Super League Team of the Year, with three players from Arsenal, two from Bristol Academy and one from Lincoln (now Notts County)…
Goalkeeper – Siobhan Camberlain (Bristol Academy)
Also in the 2013 WSL Team of the Year, having represented her club in the Champions League. The England international joined Arsenal on a two-year contract in December.
Right Back – Lucy Bronze (Liverpool)
The 2014 PFA Women’s Player of the Year who won the WSL in her first season with the Reds.
Left Back – Martha Harris (Lincoln)
The 2014 PFA Young Player of the Year. An England U-20 international who joined the reigning champions in December, after winning the Lincoln Players’ Player of the Year Award and Supporter’s Player of the Year Award too. Truly a sporting family, her dad served as coach/manager at Lincoln, her older sister Megan was captain, her twin sister Emily also plays and her brother Liam is a keen footballer and cricketer too.
Centre Backs – Jemma Rose (Bristol Academy), Gemma Bonner (Liverpool)
Jemma Rose rejoined Bristol Academy after a season with Birmingham City and the established England U-23 international is now part of Mark Sampson’s senior squad.
Gemma Bonner captained Liverpool to last season’s WSL title, made her England senior debut last September and scored her first England goal against Finland at the Cyprus Cup in March.
Midfielders – Fara Williams (Liverpool), Jordan Nobbs (Arsenal), Nicole Rolser (Liverpool), Gemma Davison (Arsenal)
Fara Williams ended a long spell with Everton to move across to Liverpool and win the league with them. A very experienced international, her England cap count currently stands at 122.
21 year old Jordan Nobbs has already made 11 senior appearances for England, following on from playing for the youth sides at a very young age, including captaining the U-17s when she was aged just 14!
Flying German winger Nicole Rolser did much in goal creation and scoring for Liverpool after a successful time at home in the Bundesliga. An ACL injury will leave her sidelined for at least most of the new season though.
Gemma Davison counts five American sides amongst her experience and after returning to Arsenal again, switched to Liverpool last December. Welcomed into the senior England fold by new coach Sampson, her international honours include caps for England at all levels from the U-19s upwards.
Forwards – Danielle Carter (Arsenal), Natasha Dowie (Liverpool).
Danielle Carter is now a member of the full England squad having helped her country finish fourth at the U-17 World Cup. More recently, she was part of side the helped Great Britain win gold at the Summer Universiade in Russia, 2013. A quick and instinctive finisher.
Natasha Dowie netted 19 goals in 21 games to spur Liverpool to league success and the England striker was also named the FA Players’ Player of the Year, amongst other glowing accolades.
