Last weekend saw the hosting of our annual Ladies Charity 6-aside tournament at Grammarians Sports Ground in Wellingborough, Northampton.
As usual, we had 16 ladies teams taking part, with some clubs entering two teams. The idea of the day is for all the teams to come together and have a fun day out, all playing group games and then starting a knockout process into either the Cup or Plate competition.
Before the quarter-finals, the League Presentations for the season are made whilst all teams are still present. This year’s Division 2 runners up were Billing United, and winners were Thrapston Town, whilst the Division 1 runners-up were Moulton and the winners were Burton Park Wanderers.

Teams for the tournament numbered 2 from Moulton 1sts, 2 from Burton Park Wanderers (BPW), 2 from Roade, plus one entry each from Northampton Town, Corby S&L, Brackley Sports, Rothwell Corinthians, Rothwell Reserves, Moulton Reserves, Thrapston Town, Woodford, Billing and Thorplands.

Teams were placed into 4 groups and played a round robin section, before going into a knock out competition where teams either play for a Cup or Plate. This was further confused by the fact that the top prize, the Cup is now the Trevor Clifton Memorial Shield, and the Plate is actually a cup!

After the league presentations, the tournament continued. The semi-finals saw Moulton A vs Moulton B and BPW A against BPW B in the Cup. This created lots of laughter across both pitches, as not only team-mates – but in BPW’s case – sisters were up against each other.
Roade with the ‘Plate’
In the Plate semi-final, Roade beat Rothwell and Moulton Reserves defeated Thorplands, meaning Moulton had a team in either final.
Roade beat Moulton Reserves to win the Plate but Moulton won against BPW for the first time this season to take the Cup.
All profits from the day went to the Air Ambulance, this year’s nominated charity of the Northamptonshire Women’s & Girls’ League.
