WWC 2015: Taylor Aiming to Strike for England

Striker Jodie Taylor will be aiming to hit her first England goal in Wednesday’s 2015 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Montenegro.

Merseyside born but America based Taylor is hoping it will be third time lucky after failing to find the net in her first two internationals, writes TONY LEIGHTON.

The Washington Spirit star had no real goalscoring chances but nevertheless impressed on her debut in August’s 4-0 friendly win against Sweden.

She then hit the woodwork from close range in her substitute appearance as England beat Wales, also 4-0, in a World Cup qualifier four weeks ago.

“I should have smashed the ball in but tried to place it,” said Taylor as she recalled her miss at the Cardiff City Stadium.

“The shot hit the post instead of the net and that was so frustrating, because as a striker I obviously want to get goals and the sooner the better.

“Whenever I’ve joined a new team I’ve taken a few games to settle in, but then when I’ve scored my first goal I’ve tended to go on and get quite a few more.

“Hopefully that will be the case with England, so if I get game time on Wednesday I’ll definitely to aiming to make up for that miss against Wales.”

Having played club football in five different countries, Taylor has good experience of stepping into new teams and eventually hitting her goal stride.
