Sharon Boyle’s side won 2-0 when the sides met in Newport on Friday and doubled that outcome with Heather Payne scoring twice, Hannah O’Donoghue scoring one and Tara Cully adding the fourth.
Boyle was more than pleased with the quality of her side’s display and is looking forward to preparing for next month’s UEFA Development Tournament in Hungary.
“It was nice to score four good goals but overall I was extremely pleased with the manner of how we played in difficult conditions,” said Boyle.
“We made eight changes to the starting team from Friday and all of the girls really stepped up. It’s been a great four days. I’ve a good headache for the tournament in Hungary and you can’t ask for more than that.”
Hannah O’Donoghue from Killarney Celtic put the Irish ahead when she was played through on goal and beat the keeper in a one on one situation.
Salthill Devon’s Heather Payne scored two very similar goals to stamp Ireland’s control on proceedings. She drifted in from the left flank, beat the Welsh full-back then fired in a clinical shot to find the net on both occasions.
Shelbourne’s Tara Cully, normally a winger but deployed as an attacking midfielder, showed her technical ability as she ran through from midfield, played a one two and shot under the keeper to make it 4-0.
Her Shels club-mate Rachel Kelly was a late addition to the Irish squad due to an injury and the goalkeeper came on in second half to help keep a clean sheet for the Irish.
