Late Leveller Condemns Guiseley To Drop Zone

Tuesday May 26th
FA PREMIER LEAGUE NORTHERN DIVISION

Guiseley AFC Vixens 2-2 Newcastle United

Guiseley went into the last game a point above relegated Loughborough Foxes but two points short of Nuneaton Town and therefore needing all three to secure their safety but they were denied the win by a stoppage-time equaliser.

That means that Nuneaton stay up and the Vixens are dependent on Sporting Club Albion winning the Championship Play-off with Brighton at Wycombe Wanderers FC on May 29th, which would see only one club going down from the Northern Division.

Jasmine McNaught struck from outside of the area on 17 minutes for her first goal from Newcastle, after good play from Alisha Smith.

Guiseley took only three minutes to respond as a ball over the top led to a sidefoot finish over Allison Cowling.

Sophie Williams missed the target just short of the hour mark, when put through one-on-one by Smith.

Six minutes later and Cowling gifted the Vixens the leas when spilling the ball for a tap-in.

McNaught was denied by a great save on 74 minute but late drama saw Rachel Coleman score from a Williams corner.
