With a goal-difference quite inferior to that of Rovers’ and starting the day a point behind them, Newcastle knew they needed the win against Stockport and got the best of starts when awarded a penalty on 10 minutes, which Siobhan Jones converted.
But County equalised just before the half hour, with a free kick planted into the top corner.
With 7 minutes to the interval, Jones won the ball from the keeper and finished into the empty net, before completing her hat-trick 4 minutes later.
Newcastle struck again early in the second half through Alisha Smith and they were home and dry when Carly Davies scored the fifth from distance on 52 minutes, before the scoring was rounded off late on.
