TNS Complete Treble With Shropshire Cup Win

It completed a treble for TNS, who had already not only won the West Midlands League Cup but also the Premier Division title to secure a first ever promotion to the FA Premier League.

TNS took an eighth-minute lead when Charlotte Turner headed into her own net from Laura Morris’ free-kick from the left side of the box.

However, the Shrews responded less than a minute later as Danni Smith found the net with a strike from over 25 yards out on the left which flew over the goalkeeper.

TNS continuted to threaten going forward but Shrewsbury goalkeeper Beth Cleveley was equal to the task. She made a superb save high at her near post to deny Emily Ridge when the striker was played in one-on-one.

Ridge was then denied by the crossbar in the 16th minute as she looked to chip Cleveley from the edge of the box.

TNS’s top scorer this season, finally found luck as she raced in behind the Town defence in the 64th minute, went around the oncoming Cleveley and slotted into the empty net from 18 yards out.

Shrewsbury had a chance to level less than a minute later when Danni Smith drove forward on the inside left but shot low and wide of the left post from 20 yards.
