Women’s Regional League Round-Up: Ilminster and Tranmere go top

Ilminster Town edged a thriller and Tranmere Rovers also won to go top in their respective Women’s Regional Leagues Premier Divisions.

EASTERN – Game abandoned after clash of heads

Premier – League leaders Wymondham Town had a narrow 1-0 win over Bowers & Pitsea courtesy of a Natasha Youngs goal, Luton Town drew 1-1 with second-placed Bedford, St Ives Town’s game with Royston Town was abandoned after a collision resulted in two head injuries.

1 North – Lidiya Mykhaylechko hit a hat-trick as Needham Market won 6-2 over Whittlesey Athletic to go level on points with leaders Needham Market.

1 South – AFC Sudbury beat Herts Vipers 4-1 to leapfrog them into second, Hutton were 3-0 winners at Billericay Town DS.

EAST MIDLANDS – Stags catch Cobblers

Premier – Mansfield Town’s 3-0 defeat of Loughborough Students but them level on points with leaders Northampton Town, Notts County netted a dozen goals against Leicester City Ladies.

1 North – Grimsby Town made it six straight wins with eight goals at Cleethorpes Town, Arnold Eagles thrashed third-placed Nottingham Trent University 9-2 as Natasha Leach netted four, Sherwood won 2-1 at Sleaford Town with a Mikaela Noriega brace.

1 South – Anstey Nomads joined leaders Derby County Academy on 15 points as Carmelina Colangelo scored twice against Nottingham Forest DS, Oadby & Wigston did similar against the same opposition in midweek, who had Olena Tatarczuk sent off.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – Fulham hit six

Premier – Fulham are fourth after sinking Aylesford 6-1, goal-difference ahead of Worthing and Millwall, whom the Lionesses won 2-0 away to.

1 North – Sutton United gained ground on third in the table Sport London E Benfica by beating them 3-1.

1 South – Ashford Ladies hit Herne Bay 5-2 to jump above them into third spot, Bexhill United beat Maidstone United 2-0.

NORTH EAST – York extend lead

Premier – York City extended their advantage at the top with a 6-1 win over Wallsend BC, Harrogate Town are up three to fourth following a 2-0 success over Sunderland West End.

1 North – Blyth Town put six goals past Prudhoe Town to extend their lead, Spennymoor Town’s Autumn Colledge and Amelie Pattison scored twice each in a 4-3 thriller at Bishop Auckland to go second. Boro Rangers rose to third with a 3-0 win over Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves, Wallsend BC Reserves were 9-1 winners over Guisborough Town.

1 South – Hull United are second after a 4-1 victory at Farsley Celtic JFC Ladies, who had Jasmin Cooper dismissed, Millmoor won by a similar score at Bradford Park Avenue, Barnsley FC Ladies were also victorious on the road, 2-1 at Wakefield Trinity U-23s.

NORTH WEST – Rovers regain leadership

Premier – Tranmere Rovers took back the leadership from Merseyrail with a 5-0 defeat of Wigan Athletic, AFC Darwen defeated  Mossley Hill Athletic 7-2.

1 North – Preston North End prevented Blackburn CSC going top by holding them 1-1, Morecambe Reserves got off the mark with a 4-0 defeat of fourth-placed Penwortham Town.

1 South – Hindley hit fourth spot with a 5-1 defeat of Alder.

SOUTHERN – Big wins for leading pair

Premier – Abingdon United scored six times at Oxford City to remain in pole position, Moneyfields kept up the pressure with a 5-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers, while Eastleigh beat Woodley United 4-1.

Division 1 – AFC Stoneham stung fourth-placed Woking 6-0 at home to go into second place.

SOUTH WEST – Ilminster go top

Premier – Ilminster Town’s 4-3 win at fellow title rivals Sherborne Town took them top. Gemma Mountain completed a hat-trick for the hosts to bring them back from 3-1 down to 3-3 but it was all in vain as Abbie Carslake got the visitors’ winner from the spot. Bishops Lydeard’s first points were from a 2-0 defeat of Marine Academy Plymouth, Middlezoy won 3-1 at Bideford with the aid of a Chloe Snook double to also register an opening win.

1 North – Bristol Rovers beat Oldland Abbotonians 5-1 to take their perfect start to a seventh game, second-placed Frampton Rangers’ Gabby Menghini got all three goals of the match at Cheltenham Town DS.

WEST MIDLANDS – Two off as Rugby Borough spa with Droitwich

1 North – Shrewsbury Town’s Zoe Child scored a couple in the 3-0 victory over AFC Telford United that lifted them above their visitors into second place. Sandwell pipped Darlaston Town 3-2 with a Jenny Gilbert decider, Port Vale and Walsall played out a goalless draw.

1 South – Rugby Borough defeated Droitwich 4-2 with Emily Davies’ late double, Boro had Charlotte Anderton sent off, Spa’s Elise-Mae Wheatley also saw red. Rugby Town also recorded a 4-2 win against Cookley Sports, as Chloe Debaes claimed a treble in her side’s first win. Solihull Sporting went second when sending Westfields to a 7-0 defeat.
