Blackburn took third spot in the Northern Division from Stoke City, when defeating Newcastle United 2-1 in the last game of the season. Leah Foster slotted the ball past the out-rushing keeper to give Rovers a 5th-minute lead and double the advanatage 3 minutes short of the interval from a Jess Holbrook pass. Although they then conceded an own-goal from a stoppage-time free kick, the second half was goalless.
Tranmere secured their league status at the last attempt and in style too, with a 6-2 thrashing of Chester-le-Street. The result means that Stockport County finish in the relegation zone instead of Rovers.
Ipswich Town pipped Cambridge United to fifth place in South East Division 1, finishing with a fine 3-0 result at third-placed MK Dons. Zoe Cossey, Aimie Harrison and Natasha Thomas were the scorers for the Tractor Girls.
Norwich City’s 5-1 scoreline over Old Actonians means that they took eighth position instead of Denham United. Chelsea Garrett hit the opening goal for the Canaries in off the bar after good work by Natasha Snelling and Kate Parsons made it 2-0 on 33 minutes. Ellen Swift struck from 30 yards to make it 3-0 early in the second half, with the visitors then replying. But in the final 10 minutes, Garrett got her second and Snelling netted from 20 yards.
