While Glasgow City fired 14 efforts at the Spartans net without success, the visitors shooting proved almost faultless. Alana Marshall opened the scoring on 13 minutes with a free kick and although City forced a goal-line clearance and Leanne Ross hits the bar, Kirsty McLaughlin’s 34th-minute effort went in off the cross bar. Debutee Sarah Clelland completed the scoring and sealed the points 16 mintes from time.
Hibernian moved to within 5 points of the leaders with a game in hand, following a 3-0 result at Stirling University. Emma Brownlie, Sarah Ewens and Lizzie Arnotgot a goal each against a resilient students’ side.
Third-placed Celtic are now 6 points ahead of Rangers after winning 2-1 away in the Glasgow derby. Kelly Clark headed the Hoops in front midway through the first half and after Suzanne Mulvey won a 41st minute penalty, Chloe Craig doubled the lead from the spot. Clare Gemmell pulled one back for Rangers just after the hour mark but that concluded the scoring.
Aberdeen are 4 points above next to bottom Forfar Farmington, whom they beat 3-0 away. The Dons made a storming start as Cheryl Anderson scored just seconds in and Hannah Stewart made it 2-0 win only 5 minutes played. Anderson made it a brace further extending the advantage on 73 minutes.
Glasgow Girls went top of SWPL 2 very briefly with a 5-1 success at Buchan. Samantha McManus and Lauren Coleman struck in the space of 6 minutes in the first quarter of the match, with Lauren Evans making it 3-0 by the break. Charmaine McGuire got the fourth and although Buchan soon replied, Megan Logan then rounded off the scoring.
Hamilton Academical resumed the leadership on goal-difference with a 5-1 win over Queen’s Park. Gillian Inglis broke the deadlock via the post 4 minutes before half-time and 15 year-old Teighan McCann doubled the lead on the hour mark. The Spiders got a goal back, only for McCann to then net her second. In the dying minutes, McCann completed a memorable hat-trick and Amie McGill got Accies’ fifth goal.
Hearts are still a point behind Glasgow Girls, having edged out Jeanfield Swifts 2-1. Ashley Carse got Hearts ahead and Brogan Anderson made it 2-0, with Jade McDonald then halving the deficit for the Swifts.
Hutchison Vale are in the top half of the table thanks to a 6-0 defeat of winless Inverness City. Ashley Fish featured strongly with a five-goal haul, as Vale finished with only 9 players due to injury.
