Northern Ireland Women’s manager Kenny Shiels says this month’s friendly against the Lionesses will be ‘brilliant’ for his team.

The fixture on 23 February will act as part of Irish preparations for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 play-offs in April.

Shiels, who is organising a training camp this month, told irishfa.com: “This is a brilliant fixture and a great opportunity for the girls to experience. It’s one we look forward to.

“England have some of the best players in the world and rank right up beside USA, Germany, Netherlands and Norway as the best women’s teams in the world.”

The last time the two nations met was in March 2008, a European Championship qualifier in Lurgan which England won 2-0, with Fara Williams and Faye White the scorers.

The draw for the Euro 2022 play-offs is to be made on 5 March, with the two-legged ties set to be staged in early April.
