#WEURO2022 Qualifying: Germany and Netherlands first into finals

UEFA Women’s European champions Netherlands are through to the 2022 finals in England, Germany qualified after Republic of Ireland were beaten.

GROUP A – Dutch clinch group

Netherlands sank Estonia 7-0 as Danielle van de Donk scored twice in the first 16 minutes. Jackie Groenen also got a couple, Sherida Spitse converted a penalty, with Aniek Nouwen and Katja Snoeijs finding the net in the latter stages.

Russia edged Slovenia 1-0 with Nelli Korovkina the scorer on 74 minutes. The Russians are likely to cement second spoit if they beat Turkey on Tuesday.

Kosovo took a point from a goalless draw in Turkey, despite the 35th-minute dismissal of Alberina Syla.

GROUP D – Spain open up clear lead

Spain took only seconds to score against Czech Republic in a 4-0 win, Esther Gonzalez with the early goal. Patricia Guijarro and Aitana Bonmati added one each before the break and Alexia Putellas got the fourth early in the second half.

Poland were 3-0 winners over Azerbaijan, Małgorzata Mesjasz on target close to half-time, Weronika Zawistowska getting the first of her brace soon after the restart.

GROUP E – Scots extend winning run

Scotland’s Rachel Corsie had a goal ruled out before opening the scoring against Albania on 37 minutes. Arbiona Bajraktari out through her own-goal on 76 minutes and Caroline Weir made it 3-0 in added time.

Portugal were 3-0 winners in Cyprus, Cláudia Neto, Diana Silva and Ana Capeta with the goals.

GROUP F – Slovakia leapfrog hosts Hungary

Slovakia struck twice in the last quarter of the match in Hungary through Patricia Hmírová and Maria Mikolajová, the hosts not replying until Sara Pusztai stoppage-time effort. The result puts Slovakia goal-difference ahead of Hungary.

GROUP G – France replace Austria in first place

France thrashed North Macedonia 11-0, Valerie Gauvin scoring in the first minute and Eugenie le Sommer’s fifth-minute goal was the first of four on the night for her. Grace Geyoro grabbed a quick double and there was one apiece for Elisa de Almeida, Kadidiatou Diani, Viviane Asseyi and Delphine Cascarino.

GROUP H – Romania record third win

Romania scored four goals after the hour mark for a 4-0 result in Lithuania, Ştefania Vătafu’s double including a penalty.

GROUP I – Ireland’s second place in danger

Republic of Ireland could struggle to hold onto second spot in the group, following a 1-0 loss to Ukraine which gifted Germany the group. Katie McCabe hit the bar with a free-kick and also with a penalty after Denise O’Sullivan was brought down but Aine O’Gorman’s back pass beat her own keeper – Courtney Brosnan – to give the hosts a victory that re-ignites their qualification hopes.
