Blackburn Rovers Ladies have signed centre-back Jade Richards who captained Aston Villa to promotion last season.
Richards joined Villa’s U-10s and progressed into the first team at the age of 17, before becoming a key member of the side for the next decade.
Rovers Manager Gemma Donnelly told the club’s website: “Jade was captain at Aston Villa and is a born leader. Aerially dominant, she is a physical presence and more than capable with the ball at her feet.
“She is somebody who will offer fantastic experience having played in the Championship and supported her former team to win promotion into the WSL last season.”
Richards commented: “I’m one of the older ones here so I’m just trying to motivate, get all those girls on board and grow together.
“I want to bring my experiences, help others around me and enjoy myself. That’s one thing I want to do, play with a smile on my face and just experience new things with a different club.”
