Sheffield FC Spring Into Action

In Zoe Johnson’s team’s first outing after a two month break following the end of their debut FAWSL campaign, Stoke City provided a competitive contest, as an Ashleigh Hayes effort from distance required a smart save from Sheffield keeper Jules Draycott.

Sophie Jones opened the scoring for the hosts after 25 minutes for the hosts as she converted well from Hannah Cain’s ball into the box. Captain Carla Ward made it 2-0 shortly afterwards, side-footing the ball past the Potters’ stopper, Natalie Hall.

Sheffield added a third before the half-time break courtesy of Chloe Dixon, who finished low into the bottom having been played in by Kenedy Owen.

Cain then controlled a low cross at the back post before firing home into the top left corner.

After 20 months out of the game following a serious injury, Suzanne Davies celebrated her return by scoring from 15 yards out after winning possession back high up the pitch and linking well with Rhema Lord-Mears.

Sheffield continue their preparations next Sunday 15th January, when Middlesbrough visit the Home of Football Stadium for the first time since 2010, kick off 2pm.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have confirmed that midfielder Hannah Dale has completed an 18 month loan move to Sheffield FC. The ex-England U-20 international joined the WSL2 side on loan last season and is now back there until May 2018.
