England WU19s slipped to a third defeat on the spin as they narrowly lost to Denmark 2-1 in La Manga on Sunday afternoon.

Emma Coates’ side were looking to bounce back from a 3-0 opening defeat to the USA and a 2-1 loss at the hands of Sweden on Friday but were thwarted by Denmark in the last of their three games out in Spain, reports thefa.com.

But England didn’t make life easy for themselves giving away penalty in the opening ten minutes, which was converted by Sofie Lundgaard, and falling two behind when Cecile Flo Nielsen doubled the Danes’ lead.

There was hope when substitute Holly Manders pulled one back with 15 minutes left on the clock but there would be no England equaliser meaning Coates’ side will travel back from Spain winless.

England: 13 Emily Orman, 5 Naomi Hartley (C), 6 Kiera Skeels, 7 Katie Bradley, 8 Molly Pike, 10 Jessia Park, 11 Ebony Salmon, 12 Jodie Hutton, 17 Libby Smith, 18 Lia Cataldo, 21 Mel Filis

Substitutes: 19 Holly Manders for Bradley 45, 23 Maya Le Tissier for Cataldo 59, 24 Ruby Grant for Park 72, 16 Emma Bissell for Salmon 87
