Forest Green Promoted To South West Premier

Having had to withdraw from the FAWPL last season, Rovers took their Reserve team’s place in the Regional League and with few Premier League players left, went on to win the title with a currently unbeaten record.

The silverware was sealed with victory over their nearest rivals on Sunday, defeating AEK Boco 3-1 to move out of their opponents reach and beyond that of other title hopefuls.

Sophie Okey opened the scoring for Forest Green with a free close-range header after 14 minutes but AEK Boco equalised just before the break after a strong and direct run by Estelle Randall.

Almost immediately Rovers regained the lead, as Sian Towler brought down a clearance and struck a 30-yard effort that caught the keeper off her line.

There remained just one goal in it until 4 minutes from time, when Charlie Rowlands latched onto a loose ball inside the box to fire home and make it 3-1.
