Fans and players are encouraged to nominate suitable candidates for the prestigious accolades.
The annual awards ceremony will take place on Friday 8 September at Grosvenor House Hotel, London and will celebrate the very best of women’s grassroots, domestic and international football with more than 20 awards in total.
The FA Women’s ‘Unsung Hero’ award is open to players, coaches, administrators, volunteers and anyone involved in the sport who has made a recognisable contribution to women’s football over a sustained period of more than 20 years. The award is designed to recognise that person who has gone above and beyond and helped take women’s football to where it is today, without necessarily gaining the recognition they deserve.
The winner of the ‘Best Participation Initiative’ will represent the values of the new FA strategy for women and girls, which aims to double participation by 2020. This award celebrates initiatives that encourage more girls to believe that football is a sport for them and recognises the success of grassroots football development programmes that have inspired women and girls to play football. Nominations are welcome from any organisation that has delivered a programme to increase participation. You can submit your nominations for The FA Women’s ‘Unsung Hero award’ here and ‘Best Participation Initiative award’ here.
Other awards on the evening will include, amongst others, the Vauxhall England Player of the Year and Vauxhall England Young Player of the Year, The FA WSL Head Coach of the Spring Series, The FA WSL Players’ Player of the Year (WSL 1 & 2) and the FA WSL Goal of the Season, the nomination for which will also be put to a public vote in the coming weeks.
