Sunderland stretched their leadership of the Northern Premier to six points with a 2-0 victory at third-placed Stoke City. Neve Herron netted two long-range rockets in the last quarter of an hour or so.
Watford edged Chichester City 3-2 away to retake the Southern Premier top spot on goal-difference from Crawley Wasps, Katie O’Leary with a crucial brace.
Portsmouth’s Dockyard derby with Plymouth was rained off but there was better news for Pompey boss Jay Sadler, who won the Northern/South Premier Manger of the Month award.
Hounslow gained just their second point of the season in a 1-1 tie with Keynsham Town, who equalised midway through the second half.
Brighouse Town came from behind to edge Chester le Street Town 3-2 with a winner by Chrysa Tsakiri to move within a point of Division 1 North leaders Barnsley. Newcastle United jumped three places off the bottom after a 2-0 result at Bolton Wanderers, Abbie Gilchrist’s goal added to by a late Beth Gardener penalty.
Lincoln City went fourth in the Midlands with all four goals at Sporting Khalsa, Abbie Murrell twice on target. Wolves’ game fell to the weather but Dan McNamara was announced best Division 1 manager for October.
Ipswich Town went top of Division 1 South East following a 2-1 success at Enfield Town but it needed a 94th-minute Natasha Thomas goal to seal it.
Southampton FC sank Larkhall Athletic 7-1 in front of a crowd of 237 to go five points clear in Division 1 South West. Sophia Pharoah and Ella Pusey both notched a hat-trick.
Leeds United knocked Bradford City out of the Plate, Rebacca Hunt scoring twice – including a penalty in a 4-1 scoreline.
AFC Wimbledon went through 2-1 at Brislington with Georgia Heasman and Katie Stanley on target.
Oxford United thrashed Norwich City 8-1, Cheryl Williams leading the way with a hat-trick.
