Scotland had to settle for runners-up spot in their UEFA Women’s U-17 Championship qualifying round group, a missed penalty saw Northern Ireland end last.
Scotland and Italy were already both through to the Elite Round before Sunday’s meeting at Ainslie Park, which saw the hosts trailing 3-0 by half-time.
Chiara Beccari’s opener on 27 minutes was followed by goals from Nicole Arcangeli and Mathilde Pavan in the next quarter of an hour, with Alice Berti completing the scoring inside the hour mark.
Northern Ireland finished bottom of the group on goal-difference after a 1-1 draw with Montenegro at Oriam.
They were behind to a Marijana Cimbaljević effort and although Cora Morgan levelled midway through the second half, 3 minutes later she missed a penalty following a foul on Caoimhe Gelston-Mulholland.
