She Kicks Back: Lizzie Quigley (Newmarket Town LFC)

Captain of the current S-Tech Cambridgeshire Championship South leaders, she hopes to lead them up into the County Premiership.

1 Name: Lizzie Quigley

2 Age (DOB): 28/04/1987 27

3. Team: Newmarket Town Ladies

4 Position (and have you always played there)? Left back, used to play left wing

5 Team Supporter / Fave player? Arsenal, fave player Dennis Bergkamp

6. Occupation / or what are you studying? Customer contact centre assistant at building society

7 Are there other footballers in your family? My grandad used to play professionally at Hull City and Grimsby Town. My brother plays Sunday League too.

8 Favourite game played in by you (and why)? I played a tournament final at Portman Road when I was 10 in front of about 200 people, was a great atmosphere and we won!!!

9 Your best attribute as a player? I like to think I’m a bit of a Rory Delap with my throw-ins.

10 What are your ambitions in football? My ambitions are to win our league and play for as long as I can. Would love to get back into coaching too.

11 Who has been the biggest influence in your footballing career? One of my old coaches taught me how to play left back as we were over-run with wingers, it has made me a more flexible player being able to cover centre back too. Right now though, the girls I play with have the most influence in my career.

12 What is the best thing about playing for your team? The best thing about playing for Newmarket is definitely the girls I play with, we have a lot of banter and are just like a big group of friends.

13 If you got to design your team’s kit, what would it look like? I’d love to play in Arsenal red, definitely no white though with the mud we collect on our kits during our matches!

14 Do you listen to music to get you motivated, or while you train – if so, what tracks? I listen to music before going to matches, I love grime and hip hop to get me hyped up. Then its all about the banter in the changing room to get in the mood.

15 Who, that plays for your team, should we know more about and why? It’s tough to pick one, Calley Melville-Taylor is our most skillful player, she can beat about six players on her own. Faye Sutton is our quietest player, who puts a shift in whatever position she’s played in every single game.
