Glasgow City Await Champions League Draw

All attention turns to Nyon, Switzerland on Thursday 12.30pm as the last 32 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League is drawn at UEFA headquarters, says Glasgow City Club Manager Laura Montgomery.

Seeded 8th for the tournament, Scottish Champions Glasgow City could potentially be paired with any of these following teams:

Standard Liege (BEL)
Chelsea (ENG)
Olimpia Cluj (ROU)
Spartak Subotica (SRB)
St Polten-Spratzem (AUT)
FC Twente (NED)
Brescia (ITA)
PK-35 Vantaa (FIN)
Slavia Praha (CZE)
Atletico Madrid (ESP)
PAOK (GRE)
BIIK-Kazygurt (KAZ)
Stjarnan (ISL)
LSK Kvinner (NOR)
Medyk Konin (POL)
ZFK Minsk (BLR)

Commenting on the upcoming draw, Laura Montgomery said, “Without doubt this is the most exciting time of the year and in my opinion the most talented group of teams I have ever seen make it into the last 32.

“As a seeded team, we know we will face one of the 16 unseeded sides and looking at potential opponents all are very strong, as you would expect at the knock-out stage of Europe’s top competition. Teams with resources such as Chelsea will obviously be aiming to go all the way to the Final and will be very tough opponents for anyone but similarly all of these sides will have ambitions to go very far in the tournament.

“We know from personal experience how good the likes of FC Twente, Standard Liege, PK-35 Vantaa, Spartak Subotica and Medyk Konin are having faced all of them in the last 4 years and nearly all of the nations in the last 32 have great pedigree of success.

“Ultimately, we await the draw and look forward to the challenge of whoever we are paired against. One thing we do know is the date of our home leg. So make a date in the diary for Wednesday 14th October, 7.30pm at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie, when we take on our opponents in the last 32 of the Champions League, 2nd leg.”

Glasgow City will be at UEFA for the draw for the last 32 so keep focused on City’s twitter feed and periscope for up to date live coverage.
