We spoke with Cardiff City LFC’s Abbie Britton, after the Southern Division title-chasers came from two goals down at Stoke City to win 4-2 and reach the FA Premier League Cup semi-finals for the third season running.
SK: You had a bit of a rough start! What happened?
AB: I think we got caught out by the windy conditions to be honest. It was sloppy for us to concede from two set pieces so early on but we recovered well and defended them very well throughout the rest of the game.
SK: Do you think it was it important to reply fairly quickly?
AB: The third goal in the game was crucial but i was confident we would score. We were playing the better football, we just hadn’t created a clear-cut chance and as soon as we did, we scored! The girls showed great character to continue to play the right way and be patient, we knew we could score and thankfully we got 3 in about 15 minutes.
SK: Can you believe the quick turnaround to be 3-2 up?
AB: It was a great period for us, once we got one goal the confidence lifted and we managed to get ourselves back in the game thanks to some good football and then great finishes by Laura [Williams] and Bartsy [Kerry Bartlett].
SK: What do you think to the possible semi-finals opponents?
AB: It’s semi-final time so all 4 teams left are good teams. We fancy our chances against most teams, we know on our day we can beat anyone. We have been to the semi-finals for the last 3 years in a row! So we want to go that one step further this time.
