We caught up with Sporitng Club Albion manager Graham Abercrombie, after his Premier League side came from behind to dump WSL newcomers Sheffield FC out of the SSE WFA Cup on Sunday.
SK: Did going a goal behind force any change of tactics?
GA: No, we didn’t change anything. The important thing was to re-focus and stick with the plan.
SK: Can you tell us about the three Albion goals?
GA: The most important thing about all three of the goals was the timing of them. They came at good times in the game.
SK: How did it feel to beat a WSL team?
GA: It felt the same as any other win to be honest. Sheffield are a great team that will finish in the top two of WSL 2 and a team that all teams at our level would model themselves on but we were happy with the win and then we move on to this week’s fixture very quickly.
SK What can the result do for the remainder of your season?
GA: I don’t think it will affect any part of our season in a positive or negative way. We don’t let wins or defeats distract us.
SK: What was your reaction to being drawn away to Brighton?
GA: I’m happy just to be involved! I think the neutral and the FAWPL will love it as it guarantees a team from our league in the next round and probably Brighton will be happy too, as we are the lowest placed team left in the competition but I think it’s a shame. A shame because it also guarantees that there won’t be two representing. At our best we could have had a go at another WSL 2 team and I know for sure that Brighton definitely would too. We’re just happy amongst it all at this stage!
