POST MATCH REACTION

Hear from Manchester City Women’s Coach NIck Cushing following his side’s1-0 win, thanks to a Kiera Walsh goal 16 minutes from time…

ON THE RESULT: The objective was to keep a clean sheet and to get a win, also because it was our last home game, I wanted to win. I’m happy, but it will be a tough game over there.

ON 2016 SO FAR: It’s been an exceptional year. Going the year unbeaten here, I’m proud of the players and the effort they’ve put in. I didn’t think it, but now we know, it’s tough to play Champions League at this stage of the season. To have a game, that tough, after the season, is very very difficult mentally for the players, but they put a good performance in.

ON WHETHER BRONDBY ARE THE BEST TEAM THEY’VE PLAYED: They are one of the best teams, they are up there. Rosengard were one of the toughest teams we’ve beaten here, but Chelsea and Arsenal are both very good teams, and the Liverpool game was difficult because we drew. I think for the understanding of the game and understanding of how to play against us, that was probably the toughest game we’ve had here.

ON KEIRA WALSH’S GOAL: She doesn’t take that many shots does she, but we talk a lot about her because she’s never scored. It was an important one, I’m glad she scored, because her performances have been up there with the best players in the league. She’s been a very key player for us and one of our key performers consistently since she’s been in the team

ON JANE ROSS’ EARLY MISS: I’ve seen it happen many times in football. The fact that it was 0-0 or 1-0. it isn’t down to the fact Jane Ross missed that chance. If we go out, because we don’t perform at Brondby, it’s not down to the fact that she didn’t score. She’s been exceptional for us this year, she’s scored key goals for us. It happens in football, she’s going to miss chances and she’s going to score goals.
